I don't know about you but I LOVE Barbeque Sauce!!! Unfortunately many of the ingredients in traditional, store-bought sauces are not good for the health of my special diet loved one. Here is a recipe for homemade barbecue sauce that was created by a family member that is not only tasty but it is safe for your special diet loved one as well.
You will need:
1 ⅓ cup organic ketchup (think Hunts or Primal Kitchen)
¾ cup homemade or organic brown cane sugar (I like Florida brand)
¼ cup molasses
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins is a must to keep it Soy free)
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon dry mustard powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder,
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
¼ teaspoon black pepper
Dash of cayenne pepper (Optional)
Step one: Combine all ingredients and ⅓ cup water in a saucepan
Step two: Whisk until smooth.
Step three: Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and let simmer
Step four: When it starts bubbling, lower the heat so it just simmers
Step five: Allow it to cook for 5-7 minutes until it thickens.
NOTE: Keep in mind the sauce will thicken even further as it cools so you don’t want to cook it too much longer than that.
Step six: Brush the sauce on meats or poultry when grilling, as a sauce for pizza, or as a base for dips and dressings!
